Neck Lift
2min ReadNeck Lift is a type of cosmetic surgery that aims to reduce the neck wrinkles, improving the appearance of the neck and the jaw. This surgery is recommended for people with wrinkled skin and those who have lost their skin elasticity. In this surgery, the excess skin and extra fat are removed while the remaining muscles are stretched and pulled. It should be noted that Neck Lift Surgery is often done as part of the facelift.
Recovery From Neck Lift
It takes normally a few weeks to several months for the swelling and bruising to fully fade away and up to 6 months for the incisions lines to improve. During this time, the person is needed to protect his skin against sunlight and avoid wearing clothes that he needs to pull over his neck.
Related Preoperative Evaluations
Before the Neck Lift Surgery, the doctor examines the person’s overall health and discusses his purpose and expectations. The person’s face is then examined and has photographs taken so that he can compare his appearance before and after the surgery.
Before, During and After Neck Lift
Before the Procedure
The person must avoid smoking tobacco before the surgery as smoking can increase wrinkling of the skin and slow both the recovery and healing. Besides that, the person needs someone to stay with him at least the first night after the surgery.
During the Procedure
Depending on the desired result, the surgeon removes excess fat and skin while using liposuction in case of need. The incision is made on the rear of the neck and under the chin so that they are not much visible. Of course, the scarring depends on the which part of the neck is lifted.
If a person wants to have platysmaplasty, an incision is probably made under the chin and the back of ears. This type of surgery is suitable for those with weak and drooping neck muscles. The surgery is done using an endoscope to reduce the need for large incisions.
Cervicoplasty is another type of Neck Lift that seeks to remove excess skin from the neck. During this surgery, small incisions are made to remove excess. The remaining skin is then stretched and closed with stitches.
The Neck Lift Surgery entails local anesthetic or general anesthesia and lasts 1 to 4 hours.
After the Procedure
It may be necessary for the person to wear a special garment to compress the neck and help reducing swelling. Meanwhile, one should not twist or bend his neck. Besides that, he should elevate his neck above the heart level and keep it straight.
