Breast Lift | Mastopexy
2min ReadBreast Lift, also known as Mastopexy, is a procedure prescribed for the reforming of sagging breasts. This procedure is usually sought after by women who have given birth, removed their breast implants or lost weight. In some cases, the nipples are separated from the milk ducts; therefore, one has to consider whether she wants to breastfeed after the procedure or not. Needless to say, a lot of women who undergo this surgery are able to breastfeed even after the procedure.
Recovery from Breast Lift
Recovery from a complete breast lift will require at least 6 weeks worth of time. Total recovery usually takes six to eight weeks, but may extend to one year.
Related Preoperative Evaluations
Before the surgery, the patient’s medical history is examined and her breasts are measured. Patient may also need to undergo various tests such as mammography.
Before, During and After Breast Lift
Before the Procedure
The surgeon will ask the patient to avoid taking certain drugs such as blood thinners, at least three weeks before surgery. It is also suggested that someone else accompany the patient and takes him/her to the hotel after surgery.
During the Procedure
Breast lift is performed in various ways. In the standard operation, an incision from the lower part of the breast to the nipple is created. This method of lifting can leave a visible scar. In another method, an incision is created at the tip of the nipple and part of the skin is removed; then the rest of the skin returns to its place so that the patient’s breast will be in better shape. This type of operation leaves a minimum scar.
Another method
Yet in another method, an incision is made on the nipple and lowered to the bottom of the breast; it also provides less scarring than standard surgery. After the incision, the extra tissue is removed and the nipple is displaced. If a patient asks for a breast implant, some clinics are able to provide this service. This surgery is performed under full anesthetic and lasts 2 to 3 hours.
After the Procedure
In the first few days after the surgery, the patient needs to use the prescribed surgeon’s medicines and avoid stretching, bending and lifting the objects. When sleeping, the patient should lie on the back or side to prevent the pressure on the chest. The patient should also avoid sexual activity for one to two weeks after surgery.
