Glaucoma Treatment
3min ReadGlaucoma is a type of eye disease that affects the optic nerve and can cause sight lost in addition to visual problems if you leave it untreated. Glaucoma is caused by increased pressure inside your eyes. The pressure affects the optic nerve and leads to poor vision. When glaucoma damages someone’s eyesight, the damages will be irreparable. The treatment goal is to eliminate glaucoma symptoms and to prevent further damages, such as glaucoma seriousness and blindness. Different types of glaucoma include open-angle glaucoma, chronic angle-closure glaucoma, congenital glaucoma, and secondary glaucoma.
Open-angle glaucoma occurs when the fluid inside the eye cannot be expelled out of the eye. This leads to a fluid pool inside the eye that increases the pressure of the eye; thereby it damages the optic nerve.
The chronic close angle glaucoma occurs when the iris prevents the drainage of the eye fluid from the eye drainage pipes. As a result, the eye pressure is high and the optic nerve is damaged.
Congenital glaucoma occurs to children who may have had the disease since their birth time. Symptoms of this type of glaucoma include photophobia, eye wetness, eye enlargement, and cross-eyed.
Secondary glaucoma is caused by eye stroke or other eye problems.
Duration of glaucoma treatment
As mentioned earlier, the goal of glaucoma treatment is to the prevention of its seriousness, and glaucoma cannot be completely cured. Therefore, it is not to be cured, and medicine and eye drops are just prescribed for the patient, that needs to be consumed continuously. In addition to medicine and drops, there are lasers and special kinds of surgeries may be prescribed in some cases: moreover, the combination of these strategies is also possible. In general, the duration of treatment for glaucoma depends on the treatment chosen by the doctor and it is crucial to consult a doctor.
Related paraclinical
The doctor may perform tests and do optometry to measure the extent of damage to the optic nerve and eye pressure, measure the individual’s vision and measure the diameter of the cornea.
Existing glaucoma treatments
Existing glaucoma treatments are not complicated and do not require much explanation (the doctor will provide the necessary explanation). Of course, laser therapy or even surgery can be prescribed, but these strategies are not hard and dangerous, so different treatments are explained.
An eye drop is usually prescribed to deal with open-angle glaucoma. It is necessary for the patient to drop the eye drop into his eyes and close his eyes for some moments to absorb the drop. When drops cannot control the pressure well, other medications may be prescribed.
Laser glaucoma treatment may also be used to glaucoma treatment, which is two types: laser trabeculoplasty and Cyclodiode laser therapy. In the first case, high-energy optical waves are transmitted to the eye to prevent eye drainage pipes obstruction. In the second case, with the use of the laser, the tissues disappear to reduce the production of ocular fluid and decrease the pressure of the eye simultaneously.
Trabeculoplasty surgery is the most common type of glaucoma treatment surgery that involves the extraction of the tissue along with the cornea so that the eye fluid can be removed properly.

Duration of hospitalization
It depends on the type of treatment, but in principle, hard methods for dealing with glaucoma do not usually require hospitalization.
