2min ReadBreast Reconstruction is a procedure which is prescribed for women whose breasts are deformed or totally removed. It is a common surgery for those who’ve had treated their breast cancer with mastectomy or lumpectomy. Some patients prefer to wait and do this surgery after mastectomy.
Recovery From Breast Reconstruction
The length of the recovery period depends on the type of procedure and the patient’s overall conditions. The person is able to resume daily activities up to 3 to 6 weeks after the surgery. During the recovery period she typically needs to take the drain up to 1 to 3 weeks. These issues should be consulted with the physician prior to the surgery.

Prior to the Surgery, the medical history of the individual is reviewed and the related physical examination as well as photography is issued to determine the treatment option.
Before, During and After Breast Reconstruction
Before the Procedure
The individual will probably be asked to avoid smoking, drinking, eating and taking certain drugs. The person is also needed to arrange for someone help after leaving the hospital and to stay with him at least for a few days during his recovery.
During the Procedure
Breast Reconstruction surgery includes different types which are discussed in the consulting sessions. The Surgery is done by using either the silicone prosthesis (breast implant) or flap procedure. During the flap procedure particular parts of the body such as tummy, thighs and hips are transplanted into the breast. The process is done in two phases comprising the formation of breast bulge and rebuilding the breast.
After the Procedure
The person is needed to follow the physician prescription. She may also need to wear a special cloth during her recovery.
