Eyebrow Hair Transplant

4min Read

The eyebrows are like the crowns of our eyes, they are ornaments that highlight our eyes and their beauty.

An eyebrow hair transplant can make these ornaments even more beautiful. With the improvement of surgical techniques, the demand for eyebrow hair transplant has also been increasing more and more. For optimal results, knowledge of the anatomy of the face, the ability to design eyebrows, and the skill of extracting and transplanting eyebrows are all needed.

There are 2 methods for transplanting eyebrows, one is called FUT and the other is FUE.

During FUT, a small strip of tissue is taken from the back of the head and the grafts are then removed from it and transplanted in the eyebrows. FUE is when the follicles are extracted separately, rather than a whole strip of tissue.

Treatment duration

The recovery stage ends approximately 24 hours after the procedure, however, the results appear at least 8 months later.

Paraclinical tests

An eyebrow hair transplant doesn’t normally require a blood test, however, it is occasionally needed to rule out viral diseases such as HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. If the patient has a history of being allergic to anesthetics, the physician must be informed.

Preoperative care, the procedure, and postoperative care

Before the procedure

First, tell the physician about your expectations and then ask them to explain the possibilities considering your conditions.

This way your expectations can be aligned with the realistic results, it is necessary to understand the limitations of eyebrow hair transplants. It is possible that you might need to undergo multiple sessions to achieve the required eyebrow density. Stop smoking from 2 weeks before the procedure. You must also stop the consumption of aspirin and other anticoagulants before the procedure (consult your physician before you do this).

The eyebrow hair transplant procedure

The first step to the procedure is anesthetization, local anesthesia is used on the eyebrows and the surrounding areas.

Either some follicles or a strip of tissue is taken from the hair donor site (the donor site is the tissue from which the hair is taken).

Approximately 250-400 grafts are needed for each eyebrow.

The best area in regards to tissue similarity and hair thickness is chosen as the donor site. The borders of the eyebrows are designed and then the physician transplants the hairs.

The eyebrow is made of three parts: the head, the body, and the tail; The way the hair is transplanted is different for each part, for example, the head of the eyebrow is transplanted in a vertical direction.

After the procedure

After the procedure, dressing is applied to the donor site for 2 days.

The eyebrows, however, will not be covered. You must spray the prescribed solution unto your eyebrows every 2-3 hours.  The swelling will remain for at least a week. The physician will prescribe drugs such as antibiotics, analgesics, and corticosteroids, the patient must take them according to the physician’s instructions. Corticosteroids are prescribed so that the body does not reject the transplant. You can apply makeup to the eyes after 2 days but you must wait until your eyebrows completely scab over to apply eyebrow makeup. You can wash your hair 3 days after the procedure (which is when you must remove the dressing from the donor site). A gel that makes the transplanted hairs grow in the right direction is prescribed. You must apply this gel on your eyebrows until after 3 weeks.

Important notes regarding your eyebrow hair transplant

At first, almost all of the transplanted eyebrow hairs will fall, however, they will visibly regrow 3-4 months later.

Around 4-6 months later the number and thickness of hairs will increase.

A possible side effect could be that the color, texture, direction and growth speed of the transplanted hairs will be different from your original eyebrow hairs’. The occurrence of these side effects greatly depends on the physician’s skill and the tools they use. After the eyebrow hairs grow you might need to trim them every 4 days. Infection, folliculitis, and scarring are a few rare side effects of this procedure.

FAQ

Are eyebrow hair transplants permanent?

Although all of the transplanted hairs will fall during the first few weeks, they will regrow approximately 3 months later. In general, not all of the hairs will grow back, therefore you might need a repair surgery for thicker eyebrows.

Can men get eyebrow hair transplants as well?

Of course, eyebrows are eyebrows, there are no gender limitations! Eyebrows are an important feature of both male and female faces. Men can undergo this sort of procedure whether it is for aesthetic purposes, a congenital disorder, or injuries such as burns or scars.

Which is better, an eyebrow hair transplant or microblading?

The answer to this question is very subjective and personal. With microblading, you can shape your eyebrows however you want. With a transplant however, there are limitations in shapes and style but many still prefer transplants because they look more natural. Microblading gives your eyebrows an artificial and uniform look that needs repair every now and then while a transplant needs repair only until it has reached the desired density.

Which eyebrow hair transplant method is the best?

In general, there are two methods for eyebrow hair transplantation. Each method has its own use depending on the conditions of your hair and skin and on your desires and expectations. The physician takes these things into consideration and will recommend the most suitable one after listening to your opinion as well. At the moment, the most commonly used method is FUE, in which the hair follicles that will be transplanted to your eyebrows are removed individually.
